Fall 2025 Community Update

As Fall comes to a close, we’re reflecting on the outreach, education, events, and connections that made this season so impactful for Zero Suicides Elko County.

Our core mission remains at the heart of everything we do: Saving Lives & Enriching Communities through Education, Collaboration, and Suicide Prevention.

Empowering Our Community Through Education

Education has been a major focus this season:

  • 11 community members completed full ASIST (Applied Suicide Intervention Skills Training).

  • 77 participants joined our safeTALK sessions, equipping more neighbors with life-saving awareness skills.

  • We connected directly with local youth through presentations for students in grades 5–12 at Living Stones and participated in Adobe’s Color Run.

Bringing People Together

A major highlight this fall was our Hope, Health & Healing 5K Walk/Run, which brought together more than 300 participants. Seeing so many community members come out to remember loved ones, support friends and family, and stand together for suicide prevention was a powerful reminder of why this work matters.

Community Outreach & Partnerships

Throughout the fall, we brought suicide prevention resources directly into the community:

  • World Suicide Prevention Day: Spent time at Wendy’s on Mountain City Highway sharing resources and starting conversations.

  • National Night Out: Partnered with the Children’s Advocacy Center, SilverSummit Healthplan, and local communities in Elko and Wendover.

  • Growing Network: Continued building strong partnerships with local healthcare providers, tribal organizations, veteran organizations, faith communities, and local groups across Elko County.

Honoring Every Form of Grief

In this issue of our newsletter, we also want to emphasize an important message: grief isn’t limited to the loss of a loved one. We can grieve the loss of a job, a home filled with memories, a beloved pet, an ended friendship, or even a future we once imagined. Every kind of grief is valid, and every person experiencing grief deserves compassion and support.

Looking Ahead

We are deeply thankful for the volunteers, supporters, partners, and community members who stand with us. Every person who attends a training, walks in an event, shares a resource, or starts an open conversation plays a vital role in saving lives.
