Spring 2026: Building Hope, Saving Lives & Connecting Our Community

Spring is bringing new opportunities for Zero Suicides Elko County to connect with our community, provide suicide prevention education, share resources, and strengthen partnerships across our region.

Our core mission remains at the center of everything we do: Saving Lives & Enriching Communities through Education, Collaboration, and Suicide Prevention.

This year is already off to an active start, and we are deeply grateful for the community members and local organizations helping us carry this work forward.

Empowering Our Community Through Education

Education and training continue to build a safer, more supportive network across Elko County:

  • 29 community members have completed safeTALK training so far in 2026, gaining vital skills to recognize when someone may be struggling and connect them with support.

  • Youth Outreach: We reached students directly through educational presentations at Carlin Combined Schools, Battle Born Youth Academy Challenge, and the Ely School District.

Community Outreach in Action

We’ve been actively connecting with people where they gather:

  • Hosted our Mimosas & Brunch Fundraiser to support local prevention initiatives.

  • Maintained 16 days of resource tables during NGM’s Annual Refresher Training.

  • Participated in the Tuesdays Community Meeting, the local Health & Fitness Fair, and SilverSummit Family Night, ensuring families know where to turn when they or a loved one need support.

Collaborating for Impact

Suicide prevention takes all of us. We continue to work closely with local healthcare providers, tribal organizations, veteran groups, faith communities, and local partners to expand access to mental health resources throughout our region.

Stories of HOPE & Healing

This spring, we are honored to share our first Story of HOPE and Healing featuring Lauryn Winn, Executive Director of PACE.

Lauryn shared her personal journey through grief following the sudden loss of her younger brother, Dylan, in 2021—and later navigating the loss of both of her parents within a year and a half. For Lauryn, admitting out loud that she wasn't okay was a crucial first step. By seeking therapy, leaning on family, and connecting with supportive resources, she found a path toward healing.

"If it can help others, my story is always worth sharing."

Lauryn Winn

Lauryn’s story is a powerful reminder that while hope looks different for everyone, no one has to navigate struggle or loss alone.
